Samuel Eto’o may have announced his retirement this week, but that name may be gracing football pitches for much longer after his son Etienne Eto’o Pineda was named in Cameroon’s provisional squad for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.

The younger Eto’o is captain of the Under-17 side at Spanish side Mallorca, where his father first rose to prominence in his illustrious career, and is also eligible to play for Spain, where he was born.

The Cameroon federation are waiting on the paperwork that would secure the younger Eto’o’s release from Mallorca for the competition, but he is expected to link up with the squad shortly.

There is also another Etienne Eto’o who played for Mallorca, the younger brother of the more illustrious Samuel, but his career fizzled out in 2012.

Cameroon will take on Argentina, Spain and Tajikistan in Group E in Brazil, with the tournament set to run from October 26-November 17.
