Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane praised the contribution of “Hulk” Mauricio Affonso as the Uruguayan forward scored a brace to help the side to a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United in the final of the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.

Affonso helped The Brazilians to come from behind for the win and Mosimane says he is a forward he has been seeking for some time, one who can be dominant in the air and hold up the play.

“Yes, we’ve got our passes, our inter-passing and we’re good at that, you could see when we put the ball on the ground but we needed a different option, with somebody whose got height like him [Affonso], he’s not fit trust me, we need to get him fit but brought him for this,” Mosimane told reporters.

“But I think [Gaston] Sirino was on fire. But the experience helped us, the experience of [Hlompho] Kekana and Andile [Jali], they are experienced this game you just kill it with experience.

“That’s his [Affonso] strength, that’s what I told him, what you see is what you get, he’s not a Themba Zwane, he’s not Gaston Sirino, he’ll put you to sleep and he’ll pounce! That’s why I went to get him from Peru, because I knew what I got.

“I’ve always wanted a player who is powerful like this but I never got, I never found it right. I needed somebody who could give me something different, especially for Champions League.

“We managed to come back thanks God the hulk is here, Mauricio came to the party. He gave us a different dimension, because we can’t only play on one way.”
